Sinful Colors Kismet Elated

Wow. I just realized that it's been over six months since my last post. It doesn't really matter seeing as no one reads this blog -- it's more for my own enjoyment than anything -- but it feels wrong to disappear for so long without an explanation.

Starting in April, I got my first full-time job. Took me long enough! After countless rejections and an ill-fated weeklong stint at a pharmacy, I am finally back in the workforce. It's only a receptionist position, but it's better than nothing. The office building that I work in is extraordinarily quiet, so I spend most of my day reading. I can blow through several novels a week if things are especially slow. I often wish that I had more to do, but quite frankly, I will not look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm being paid slightly above minimum wage to essentially do nothing. Sure, I have to get up at 7 AM and drive 35 minutes to get there (with the driver’s license that I finally got in January!!), but for now, I'm just happy to have a job at all. I don't say this often, but I'm proud of myself. I've accomplished a lot this year.

Though I haven't had the time or energy to update this blog in recent months, my passion for nail polish still remains. I was browsing eBay a couple of months ago when I came across a listing for a lot of Sinful Colors polishes. It didn't look particularly promising, but I was compelled to click regardless. As I neared the end of the 20-ish photos included in the listing, I was just about ready to click away... until I saw this. I am not too proud to admit that a long stream of expletives followed. Kismet Elated is old and pretty damn rare, and it's been on my vintage Sinful wishlist ever since I learned of its existence. I didn't even think before I bought the lot. It was as automatic as breathing, a fact of life: the sky is blue, 2 + 2 = 4, and this polish will be mine. There was a slight snag in the process; the seller cancelled the order, indicating that she would not be able to ship it for reasons I didn't really understand. I told her that I would happily wait for as long as she needed. It was shipped out a couple of weeks later and was finally mine!

I can't remember how many coats it took to reach opacity, but it was less than expected - 2 or 3, maybe? Kismet Elated is one of those polishes that appears to have been reformulated several times, and I know that other iterations are considerably more sheer. Not this one, though! It's the loveliest medium pinky-purple with a fiery shimmer. I was under the impression that it was a duochrome, but the shift from copper to gold is so subtle as to be almost imperceptible. It doesn't dampen my love for this polish in the slightest. I wore it for 11 days and was not even remotely sick of it by the time I removed it. Such a dreamy color. I can't properly express how happy I am to have it in my possession.

So, to wrap things up, I can confidently say that I will not return to posting as often as I once did. Still, I see no reason to retire this blog for good. If I only drop in twice a year, so be it! I keep acting as though I have an obligation to keep a certain schedule, that I have devoted readers hanging onto my every word. This always has been and always will be solely for me. It's a fun way to document my hobby if and when the mood strikes. Nothing more, nothing less... and that's okay.

And until next time, whenever that may be... peace out!
