Jelly Sandwiches!

Hello, all zero of you! I'm back with another post that nobody cares about. Em, stop with the pity party...

Anyway! Today I have a collection of 5 jelly sandwich ideas that may or may not have worked out. For those of you who don't know, a jelly sandwich is when you apply a glitter polish between two coats of jelly polish. This creates a really cool effect of the glitter being suspended or "trapped" in your nail. I don't know if this look is for everyone, but personally I love it! I've always had a weird fascination with things like this. Remember those acrylic toilet seats that had little marine animal figurines suspended in them? Like this: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/a7/f3/76/a7f376682f901020c28336071b02177f.jpg ? Yeah, I've always loved those for some reason. Why am I comparing a nail polish technique to a toilet seat? I don't know...

Moving swiftly on, I will show all of my concepts and include which polishes I used to achieve the look. I'll tell you how I did it, and my thoughts on how it turned out. I'm excited because I've been wanting to try out a jelly sandwich look for a while but never did, and now I've got 5! Here goes...

Here they are! Let me start off with the thumb, which I consider to be the biggest failure.

Thumb
Jelly polish: Pure Green by NYX Girls
Glitter polish: Fairy Dust by China Glaze

Yeah... I don't even know if this can be considered a proper jelly sandwich. I don't know if that green polish (which I LOVE, by the way) is even really a jelly... I get the feeling it's not. It also doesn't help that Fairy Dust's particles are very small, and jelly sandwiches are supposed to be made with chunkier glitter. This was 3 coats of Pure Green and 2 coats of Fairy Dust, alternating. I just wanted to see if this would even work, and evidently, it didn't.

Index finger
Jelly polish: Maven by NYX Girls
Glitter polish: Flake Out by Sinful Colors

I like how this turned out, but it was SO labor-intensive. First I applied 2-ish coats of Maven, then added a flake. 2 more coats, another flake. 2 more coats, another flake. 2 more coats. Yeah... 8 coats of nail polish to get this done. You should have seen it from the side - it looked like an acrylic nail! This would never work as a real manicure. It just requires too many coats and too much time. But it's so pretty to look at, isn't it?

Middle finger
Jelly polish: Purple Effect by L.A. Girls
Glitter polish: Celestial FX by Revlon

I sorta kinda liked how this turned out. It's better in theory, honestly. I did one thin coat of Purple Effect, fished a few glitters from Celestial FX and placed them, then topped it off with another coat of PE. I think that last coat was a bit thick, so it's hard to see the glitter underneath. It also doesn't help that PE has scattered holo in it, overpowering the moon & star glitter and making it harder to see. It looks better in low-light because the holo isn't reflecting. Either way, I wish this worked out better.

Ring finger
Jelly polish: Ravishing, Dahling by China Glaze
Glitter polish: Hologram by Revlon Street Wear

This one is really interesting! Unfortunately, the camera doesn't quite capture it, but this has an amazing amount of depth to it. I did 3 coats of R,D and 2 coats of Hologram, alternating. Interestingly that top coat of R,D basically cancels out the holographic qualities of the glitter and just reduces it to typical silver bar glitter. But I really like it! I think this one best captures that suspended/trapped glitter look. Or maybe that honor goes to the final one...

Pinky finger
Jelly polish: Sheer Jelly by Butter London
Glitter polish: Carnival by NYX Girls

I think this is the most traditional jelly sandwich look that I did. Sheer Jelly is a true jelly polish — look, it's even got "jelly" in the name! - so that's why this worked best. Carnival is also the perfect chunky polish for the look. I did 3 coats of SJ and 2 coats of Carnival, alternating. I really, really love how this turned out! This is the only one of the bunch I can actually imagine doing a full manicure of.

So, that was my foray into jelly sandwich territory! I make it sound so treacherous when jelly sandwiches are really super easy. I also read somewhere that you can make your own jelly polishes with 97% clear and 3% colored polish mixed together. That sounds like it'd work tbh... I should try it sometime! I hope you enjoyed this post. Until next time...

Outdated Beauty Supply Site Selling Vintage China Glaze: It's True!

They're. Here.

When I tell you I'm shaking right now, I mean it. My heartbeat is going a hundred miles a minute. I actually squealed out loud when I saw the UPS truck pull up in front of my house. And they're finally here. My beautiful vintage babies.

I'm happy to report that all five colors are in the vintage China Glaze bottle, logo in-tact. As far as I can tell, they're all brand new. Some bottles are a little bit more scratched up than others. #108 The Rush is definitely in the best condition, as all the paint looks basically pristine save for a couple of small scratches/errors on the back. I'd say #119 Mink Frost is in the worst condition, since it's missing the A in "China" entirely and the back is quite scratched up. Not to worry, though - all that matters is that it's there. And it is.

I find it humorous, but unsurprising, that the bottles are just a little dusty. The grooves in the caps and the "CG" on top seem to be the dust's favorite hiding place. I also find it funny how perfect the condition of these bottles are. I know they're basically brand new and they've been doing nothing but sitting around in some warehouse for 19 years, but oh my gosh. There's no damage or flaws aside from scratched paint, and those white labels on the bottom are absolutely pristine - not yellowed even one bit. I'm just in complete awe. Who knew that you could acquire such vintage, HTF polishes from some mundane beauty supply site?

So, anyway. I should probably get on to the actual polishes. I think I need to do a group shot first. So, here's all the polishes lined up from oldest (lowest number) to latest (highest number).

L-R: The Rush, Sundiver, Cloud Nine, Breathless, Mink Frost

Yes, I made this picture really big so you can see everything. And yes, that white background is a folded piece of paper from my 9 x 12 sketchbook. What about it? Seriously, though - look at them! From the bottle appearance alone, I think Breathless is my favorite. That frosty sky blue is just SO late 90s, and I mean that in the nicest way possible (I've got a feeling it's going to be a bit sheer, though). I'm suspecting that Cloud Nine and Sundiver might need some thinning, seeing as there's a lot of glitter at the middle of the bottle, meaning it may have separated or thickened. Maybe it just needs a good shake. I guess we'll see! (If they need to be thinned, I'll pick up some Seche Restore over the weekend.) I do believe these are unopened, though, so I don't know if they could have thickened without oxygen getting to them. I don't know how nail polish chemistry works! I think I'm getting carried away...

Anyway. I think I'll be taking a look at these in the same order as that group photo, L-R. Just because I like it that way, and it makes sense since Mink Frost is the darkest (therefore it'll stain my nails the most). Please enjoy!

#108 The Rush - described as purple glitter, but I wouldn't call it purple...

Here's the bottle for The Rush. While this is described by the fantastic China Glaze wiki (wiki.mylatestobsession.com) as purple, it definitely doesn't look like it. To me, it appears totally light grey. I'm fine with that, but I'm just a bit confused since the description contradicts what I'm seeing. Maybe it used to be purple, but it's changed color with age? Who knows. Now let's see this on the nail... here's 3 coats of The Rush. (2 coats is probably doable, but I just wanted to make it 100% opaque).

Yeah... that's not purple. It's silver. But you know what? I actually kind of like this. It's unique. I've seen a bunch of old-school brushstroke-y silver polishes in my day, but none with glitter. Yep, this has glitter! If you look closely, you can see tiny little silver particles. It's definitely very out-there and, from far away, it has a very futuristic look to it. I don't love it, but The Rush gets a thumbs-up from me!

#110 Sundiver - pale yellow with silver glitter

I'm excited for this one! If you read my other posts, you'd know that I found CacheBeauty by searching up this color. While this doesn't look exactly like I expected it to in the bottle (it appears as a brighter yellow), it's definitely still pretty. Let's try it on! Here's 4(!!) coats of Sundiver.

Yeah, 4 coats. Oh, Sundiver, I wanted you to be the perfect polish. But alas, you are not. It's not as vibrant in person - definitely more of a pastel yellow. It's a little bit streaky and not very even. And it takes 4 coats! Aww. I still like it though. Away from the harsh scrutiny of the OttLite, Sundiver is a joy to look at. That cute yellow color and playful glitter make for a lovely polish that could've only come out in the late 90s. And something about the name Sundiver makes me really happy. Not my favorite thing ever, but Sundiver still gets the thumbs-up.

#111 Cloud Nine - no official description, but it's most definitely a pink glitter

There is so little information about this polish on the internet, it's scary. All that's available is that it came out with #108, #110, and #112 (among others that I don't own) in an unnamed skydiving-themed collection circa 1999. There is no official description for this polish, but as I hold it in my hand I can 100% tell you that it's pink with silver glitter. Now let's see it on the nail: here's 3 coats of Cloud Nine.

Awwwww, I like it! It's frosty and brushstroke-y, but man, it's so cute! 2 coats would work if you're okay with a bit of VNL. Even 3 coats show just the teeny-tiniest bit, but again. Once you're away from the OttLite, things like VNL become slightly less apparent. Maybe it's the name that's swaying my opinion, but I loooove the name Cloud Nine. This collection has such lovely names! Did you know there was another polish called Cloud Nine released in 2009, and when you try to find this one on Google, you only get results for the newer version (which is a totally different color, btw)? Anyways, this one gets the thumbs-up from me!

#112 Breathless - sky blue shimmer

As mentioned above, I really like the way this one looks in the bottle. I tend to stick to warmer colors (red, pink, tan, purple, etc) but this blue is just way too cute! I did have some suspicions that this would be sheer, and I'm still a little bit afraid, but I'm willing to take the time and build this color up! Let's see how this looks on the nail. Here we have 3 coats of Breathless.

So cuuuuute!! I have absolutely nothing like this in my collection. It's such a beautiful and unique color of blue, sitting somewhere between sky, robin's egg, and Tiffany blue. It's frosty and bordering on metallic, but not quite there yet. It's just so soothing to look at. I'd love to paint my room a color like this, honestly. I would live in this color if I could! Okay, maybe I'm being dramatic... but this is just such a lovely, sweet color! It's not pink or red, but still manages to be girlie in its own way. Its own late 90s wacky way. Breathless gets a big fat thumbs-up from me!

Finally, we have...

#119 Mink Frost - dark purple with gold/coppper shimmer

I'm excited to try this! You may already know this, but I have a TON of purples in my collection. This one stands out because it's perched on the line between purple, mauve, and brown. It's a very warm, rich purple, and that shimmer helps a lot. Let's see how this looks on the nail! Here's 3 coats of Mink Frost.

How pretty is this? So sophisticated, yet still girlie and fun in its own way. That deep mauve/purple combined with that shimmer is absolutely gorgeous. It reminds me of so many things. I imagine a fortune teller gazing over her crystal ball with this on her long, pointed nails. Do you know what I mean? This and Cat's Eye give me that vibe. In other words, I love it. Definitely a thumbs-up from me!

So... here we come to the end. I've got a couple comments I'd like to make about this collection as a whole. First and foremost, I gotta talk about the elephant in the room - that SMELL. Yes, these came before the time of 3-free, so they're jam-packed full of chemicals I really shouldn't be breathing in. Due to this, they smell. Strong. Worryingly, they all smell a little bit different... maybe just different chemical stews based on the amount of color and glitter? Who knows - once again, I'm no chemist. I'm not really someone who cares about what goes into my body (I know, that sounds awful, but it's true) so these little chemical-laden cancer potions don't bug me maybe as much as they should. I still wouldn't sit around huffing the fumes, though - that's a surefire way to get a headache and probably much worse. Just do your nails in a well-ventilated area (preferably in front of an open window) and you should probably be okay.

Secondly, you may have noticed that all of these polishes took 3-4 coats to reach my preferred level of opacity. This may sound like a drag, but all of these polishes dry very quickly. Like, weirdly quickly. Like, faster than most of my modern polishes. That makes me wonder if these old 3-free formulas tend to dry faster because of the chemicals... probably. Who knows. I'm just glad they dry as fast as they do.

Now that we've come to the end, I think it's time I try something new on this blog: a ratings system! I likely won't do this on other posts, but since I had a small batch of polishes that I was super excited to get, I just feel that it's appropriate. I'll be rating them on a scale of 1 to 5. I'll also include a short summary, including any strengths or weaknesses it might have had. (Bad formula is a given, but points will still be deducted for it - these polishes are old as heck and definitely do not have the best formula.)

The Rush
Definitely doesn't match the official description, but still a neat color nonetheless. Given the chance to purchase it again, I probably wouldn't. 3/5

Sundiver
Such a cute color, but it takes a lot to reach opacity. Still, it's lovely and makes for a playful, adorable addition to any nail polish collection. 3.5/5

Cloud Nine
The sweetest little pink glitter ever, so cute. Frosty and outdated, but that's just how I like it. 4/5

Breathless
Just adorable! Such a beautiful color and definitely a polish I will be revisiting in the near future. Very, very near... *grabs Breathless and starts painting my nails* 4.5/5

Mink Frost
Such a beautiful, versatile color with a depth to it that other polishes can't recreate. Even more lovely in person than on camera. 4.5/5

Anyways, I believe that'll be all for now. I should be back at some point with more news and more polish reviews. Christmas is around the corner, and I did ask for some specific polishes (*cough* OMG Flashback *cough*) so maybe then I'll have some new things to dig into. I've also noticed that my current polish storage is just not cutting it anymore - my giant plastic tub is filled to the brim. At some point I might get a Helmer, and maybe I could post about that? I'm not sure. Anyways! Until next time... ♥

A Somewhat Brief Update - My CacheBeauty Order!

So, my order hasn't arrived yet, but I placed it today! I ended up with a total of 5 colors. I think I could have gone without Mink Frost, but I thought "what the heck" and ordered it anyway. The first 4 are basically guaranteed to be in the old-style bottle. It's also safe to assume that they haven't been used and have basically just been sitting around for the past however-long, packed away in some warehouse, so they will most likely have all the paint on the bottle still intact. Below you can see my order.

It may be hard to see, so here's a rundown of what I got:

#108 - The Rush (purple with fine silver glitter)
#110 - Sundiver (yellow with glitter)
#111 - Cloud Nine (unknown color/finish, seems to be pink creme)
#112 - Breathless (blue, unknown finish)
#119 - Mink Frost (purple shimmer)
(Descriptions courtesy of the awesome wiki.mylatestobsession.com!)

I am reeeeally excited to receive these colors! Since it is confirmed that Mink Frost was released in the winter of 1999 and all of the other colors' numbers are lower, it's safe to assume they were released in 1999 too. That makes these shades nearly 20 years old. How insane is that?

I really hope everything turns out alright. I made sure to leave a comment in the designated area for handling instructions, asking them to please pack it carefully and label it as fragile. The last thing I want is my precious polishes breaking on the way here!

Anyway. I am hoping they ship soon, hopefully within the next couple of days. I also decided to take the plunge and go with the $24.95 3-day UPS because I'm super duper impatient. I should be back with those fairly soon. Until next time...

P.S. I checked the CacheBeauty shipping policy and they claim to ship most orders within 24 hours of placement. Yay! So hopefully it should go out tomorrow, and with 3-day priority shipping it could be here by Saturday... oh wow! I'm so excited :-)

P.P.S. Wow... they've already created a label for the package and sent me an email with the tracking number! Less than 3 hours after I ordered it! Jeez... looks like I'll probably be getting it Friday. I'm not complaining! I've seen some poor reviews for CacheBeauty online, but MAN, they are fast! I will be back with my new polishes soon!

China Glaze Haul - Part 3 Finale

Here it is, the final part of my China Glaze haul. You'll be happy to know that there are only 2 reds in this part. This should be pretty interesting! Same setup as the previous two parts - I close my eyes and pick polishes at random. So here are the final 10, in no particular order.

Hippie Chic - mauve with heavy copper shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: I'm not sure why, but this shows up on camera as very orangey when it isn't! Words can't really describe this color properly. It's mesmerizing.

Ravishing, Dahling - dark red creme - 2 coats
Notes: I'd say this is the defining dark red creme of this collection. It's still not great, but it performs its duty.

Nightfall - dark indigo/purple creme - 2 coats
Notes: Finally, a break from reds, and warm tones in general! *sigh of relief* I like this one. You know how some cremes dry and look like enamel paint? This is one of those. Though I did notice it doesn't dry quite as fast as some of the others.

Cat's Eye - rich chartreuse shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: If you read my post "Outdated Beauty Supply Site Selling Vintage China Glaze - Could It Possibly Be True?", then you'd know I've been lemming Cat's Eye for a little bit. I can happily say that I'm satisfied with it! It's truly a unique and gorgeous color (it really does look like a cat's eye) with all the vintage artifacts you'd expect, like its brushstrokey-ness. I am so proud to welcome this rare vintage polish into my collection, even without its logo!

Draped in Velvet - deep purple/magenta shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: Wow, wow, wow! How pretty is she? I know the picture shows some balding and VNL, but it's so hard to notice in person. I like this one!

Indian Ocean - deep blue shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: Ooh, pretty! I like it.

Cloud Burst - sheer pearly/shimmery white - 2 coats
Notes: This is the one I mentioned in part 1 that has the old-style bottle but new logo. I wonder why that is... not much to say about the color itself. Pretty typical frosty white.

Chat Room Rendezvous - medium red creme - 2 coats
Notes: The final red has been vanquished! And a pretty good one to end with, too. Opaque in 2 coats. Sorry for the ridiculous sloppiness of this swatch - I'm starting to get a little worn out.

Haute Hippie - dusty purple shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: OPI Fee Fi Fo Plum, is this you?? The most boring, dull purple in the world. Sighhhh. Only one left to go!

Peasant Look - mauve with gold shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: Peasant Look: the final frontier. It's okay. I'd wear it again.

So... I guess this is it. This has been quite the ride. For every dull, bland red there was a decent color. When I bought this collection, the true hope was to finally own some sweet vintage old-style bottle colors. And I guess I technically got that, but something about the worn-away paint lessens that victory just a little bit. At the end of the day, I'm really happy to welcome all these new polishes into my 'family', but I can't help that little bit of disappointment I feel. I'll definitely still be making a purchase on that website CacheBeauty.com, where I should hopefully get some sweet vintage bottles with logo intact. Admittedly I've got a headache from all the polish and remover fumes I've exposed myself to over the past hour and a half... I should probably drink some water and lie down. Thanks for joining me on this journey. Until next time…

China Glaze Haul - Part 2

This is part 2 of my 30-polish China Glaze haul! The same format as part 1 will be used here. Again, I just close my eyes and pick the polishes at random. Here are the next 10, in no particular order.

Anklets of Amethyst - medium purple with fine glitter - 2 coats
Notes: Very strong-smelling and pretty gloppy - should really be thinned but I don't have any thinner on hand. 3-4 coats would probably achieve a better opacity.

Voodoo, That U Do - deep rich red with copper shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: As stated above, this is a very rich color, and 2 easy coats create a lot of depth. Definitely one of the stronger reds I've seen in this collection so far.

Bare If You Dare - sheer peach with gold shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: Perfect color for summer, but honestly I'm not a fan. Maybe it'd be good for layering.

Gypsy Girl - classic red creme - 2 coats
Notes: Almost identical to "Sleek" from part 1, just with slightly worse coverage. That being said, it definitely isn't bad.

Cherry Crystal - medium red shimmer - 2 coats
Note: Are you sensing a theme here? Duller in person.

~This marks the halfway point in my swatching journey! Good news - we've only got 4 more reds to go! There are lots of unique and lovely-looking colors in this second half!~

I'm Not Bitter - medium red with gold shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: What a pretty red! Much bolder and brighter than a lot of the others.

Drenched in Diamonds - silver shimmer with fine glitter - 2 coats
Notes: 1 coat would make a great topper over another color.

Crown Jewels - light purple shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: Not a fan due to the fact that I already have about a million polishes just like it. If all the paint on the bottle weren't wore away, I might try to sell it.

Here Kitty, Kitty - ??? honestly I don't know what color to call this - 2 coats
Notes: I can't describe the color, it's super sheer, and the polish has gone chunky (ew). Next!

Hurts So Good - medium red shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: Another red shimmer... yawn! At least it's pretty.

Sorry this part was so boring. It seems that it was mostly just bland reds and weird colors. Part 3 will certainly be more interesting, I promise. See you then!

China Glaze Haul - Part 1

So, my lot of 30 China Glaze polishes arrived today in the mail and I must say, I'm a little bit disappointed. Of course I'm really happy that I now have 30 new polishes to welcome into my collection, but the bottles are my biggest issue. The majority (18 out of 30) have absolutely no paint on them. No logo or information, just a completely blank bottle. I guess I shouldn't really be upset about this, considering that the polish inside is what really matters, but it still irks me a bit. Of course, this includes all of the old-style bottle (those being Out on Safari, Cat's Eye, Nightfall, and Indian Ocean). One of the bottles is old-style but has the new logo, so like... what's up with that? Either way, I'm still excited to have all these new polishes so I figured I would just swatch them all! I know that's crazy, but it has to be done, right? I think I will split this into 3 parts, with 10 polishes for each part. Just a warning, the swatches will not be perfect and may feature: flooded cuticles, a bit of balding, small bubbles, polish on my fingers, stained nails, and just general imperfections. I will try my best to make my swatches presentable, but when you are swatching 30 polishes in a short time span, mistakes will happen! I will also include the amount of coats I used and any notes I have. The maximum amount of coats I'll do is 2 for the sake of time. Keep in mind also that the formula and color may be off due to age (most of these are pre-2006). Here are the first 10, in no particular order - I will be closing my eyes and picking at random.

Verano - shimmery light pink - 2 coats
Notes: very fast drying! This is also the first CG I've had experience with, so if I notice that the other polishes dry at the same rate, I won't include this.
soon!

Gilded Treasures - sheer shimmer gold with small silver glitter - 2 coats

Cranberry Flame - medium red with coppery shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: much duller in person.

Bohemian Chic - medium red shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: similar to last, also duller in person. Previous owner of this collection seems to have really favored reds, as will become apparent the more I swatch.

Sleek - classic red creme - 2 coats
Notes: great coverage in 2 easy coats. Definitely a winner!

Vintage - dark red creme - 2 coats
Notes: super duper streaky and uneven. Not a fan! Perhaps 3 coats would do it?

Australian Alabaster - sheer milky off-white creme - 3 coats
Notes: I said I wouldn't do three coats, but I really wanted to give Australian Alabaster a chance to be opaque. And it got close! Even though it's weird, milky, and streaky, I really like it. Pointer finger may look odd because I smudged it and painted over.

Vampy - dark red with gold shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: basically the prettier, darker, opaquer, glittery, better-in-every-way big sister to Vintage.

Tropical Tease - sheer light pinkish-purple with super fine glitter - 2 coats
Notes: a little streaky, but pretty!

Out on Safari - camo green shimmer - 2 coats
Notes: very pretty and unique!

Well, I think that wraps things up for part 1. Check out the next parts in this series! See you soon!

Outdated Beauty Supply Site Selling Vintage China Glaze - Could It Possibly Be True?

My love for vintage polish has been manifesting in many ways. OPI? Check. Revlon Street Wear? Check. CHINA GLAZE? Check. I'll make a confession -- I don't actually own a single China Glaze nail polish. Oops. But that's about to change. Last night I ordered a lot of 30 old China Glazes (for $75, I might add, which is a fantabulous price), and amongst them were 5 or 6 with the old style bottle (including Cat's Eye, which I've been lemming for a little bit).

Can I just take a minute to talk about how much I love the vintage China Glaze bottles? Something about that ridged cap and wonderfully 90s logo is just so dang delightful to me. I mean, look at it. How could you not love that design? (This isn't my photo, btw... it's from an OG nail blog called Polished Claws Up!)
Ahh. True beauty.

Anyway. So I've been poking around the internet for these old CG polishes (how do you think I stumbled across that amazing listing?) when I found something that's got me completely puzzled, but weirdly hopeful.

It's a website called CacheBeauty, and it looks like they're a salon supply store selling all kinds of stuff, seemingly specializing in hair products. If you want cutting shears, styling capes, or even barber poles, this is the place to go. However, they seem to have a small section dedicated to nail stuff. And they only sell one brand of polish - China Glaze, of course. But here's the catch. When you click on the name of each polish, it shows you either a swatch or a picture of the bottle. And some of them have the vintage style bottles.

Pardon my French, but

HOLY SH*T.

Wow. I'm dying over here. Even the link to the entirety of CacheBeauty's CG collection displays a frickin' awesome picture of a vintage display. Take a look. Yes, I circled it to make it more apparent. How sweet is that vintage nail polish display? Ugh.

So this is what you see when you click on that link. Just let it sink in. I didn't alter this photo in any way, folks, I promise.
1997 called, they want their web design back. Seriously, this site looks like it hasn't been updated in decades! What you can't see is the animated barber pole next to the site's logo. Also, I'm sure you're wondering... yes, that "Wild" video was posted in 2011. Sorry, but I just have to laugh.

Anyway. As is so graciously highlighted in neon green, there is a color chart available. I took a look at that and it seems only to have the newer colors (and when I say "newer", I'm talking about "not in the vintage bottle". I'm sure they're all old as heck). But some of the colors listed, such as no. 108 "The Rush" as seen at the bottom of the pic, are not listed there. I could not find a swatch of that particular color anywhere online. But when you click the underlined blue text...

VINTAGE. FRICKIN'. BOTTLE. (And what a pretty color, too, but I digress...)

I'm having a hard time believing that there's just some beauty supply warehouse out in Arkansas (that's where CacheBeauty is located) just full of vintage CG polishes. But at the same time, it all makes sense. Here's why:

  • I'm getting the sense that CacheBeauty doesn't do a whole lot of business, so all the old polishes remain unsold. This is also reflected in the site's old-school aesthetic.
  • They don't specialize in nail care, so it wouldn't be anyone's go-to place for polish. This leaves much of its stock to remain.
  • The fact that all of the polishes do not appear to be vintage is also promising. If every single polish was vintage, I'd be a little suspicious that something fishy was afoot. But the fact that only 5 out of what must be at least 100 colors seems to be vintage... well, I think I can believe that.
  • The vintage nail polish market is not a popular one. There's no reason for them to lie about selling out-of-date nail polish when the general public isn't interested in that. If they were doing that, they'd also probably hike up the price. As you can see, they currently have it set to $5.50 a bottle, which is pretty average for a bottle of nail polish and actually a little less than what CG tends to go for in stores these days.

All 5 colors total to $27.50 including shipping, which is more than doable, especially for something this priceless. Once Christmas passes and I inevitably collect a bit of money from relatives, I think I'll be making a purchase. Oh boy, I'm getting so excited just thinking about it! I found the site by searching up Sundiver, one of the 5 vintage colors. I never thought I'd actually get a chance to have it! What a satisfying end to what I surely thought would be an unfulfilled lemming.

Doing some more research, it turns out that 4 out of 5 listed colors are part of an unnamed skydiving-themed collection released sometime before 2000. One of the colors is called Cloud Nine, and upon googling this color I was met with a frosty white that looked nothing like the pink creme shown on CacheBeauty. Turns out, there were two polishes called Cloud Nine, with one being released in this vintage collection. This matches the one on CacheBeauty. We can now confirm that they are definitely selling vintage polish.

Oh... my... gosh...

A CacheBeauty order is most definitely, well... in order. Y'all have no idea how excited I am over this discovery! Maybe at some point I could buy more polishes and re-sell them (at a fair price, of course) to other polish enthusiasts who are searching for vintage CG! I really shouldn't be getting ahead of myself in case CacheBeauty is just a big scam, but oh boy... I can't help myself!

However this story turns out, there will be a follow-up, I promise. Until next time...

P.S. I also realized that the red polish in the center of the second photo is for sale under the name Flying Dragon. It seems China Glaze has released a few colors under this name, but I'm wondering if it's another Cloud Nine situation...

P.P.S. I'm pretty sure I was incorrect about the Flying Dragon thing. However, I think #119 Mink Frost might be vintage too. I've looked up this color and I only found one photo of a new-style bottle, but even that is not 100% confirmed to be Mink Frost. All other photos are of vintage bottles. Upon doing further research, Mink Frost was released alongside Chinchilla Vanilla (which is offered on CacheBeauty with a vintage bottle) in the 1999 Winter Coats collection. So it's safe to say that that one is vintage too (and even if it's not, that's fine because it's a beautiful color). I won't be able to buy these polishes until after Christmas, so I should really stop obsessing over them until then.
Also, the new total of the polishes would be $33, without shipping. Yeah, I was wrong about shipping. It's super expensive no matter what! The cheapest options are $9.95, and priority shipping is $24.95... ugh! I would only go with priority because who knows how long it'll take if I just choose regular mail? It could take a week or two, and I'm an impatient girl! Decisions, decisions...

P.P.P.S. I remembered that I've got a couple checks that are being cashed, and I got a belated birthday
card with another check in it for quite a chunk of money! You know what that means...

I just can't stop obsessing over these colors. That's a little-known fact about me... I tend to obsess a bit when I really like something. Of course nail polish in general is my main obsession, but sometimes it'll stem off into smaller offshoots. For example, Revlon Street Wear was (and still is, to an extent) an example of that. Obviously, it's currently China Glaze and the CacheBeauty collection. I gotta get my hands on it, specifically Sundiver. I'm also interested in The Rush, Breathless, and Cloud Nine simply because of how little information there is about them on the web. We know vaguely when they were released and what they look like in the bottle. No pictures aside from the ones on the listing, swatches, no exact release year... nothing. I want to be the first to figure out just what these polishes are and document it on the web. That being said, I should have all my money cashed by Saturday and will purchase it shortly after. I think I'll be going with 3-day UPS shipping because I figure either way, I’m gonna be spending extra on shipping. Why not just put that extra money to good use? I promise this is the last addition to this loooooong post. I’ll be back fairly soon with those colors.
