So, I thought I would make it clear that much of the nail polish I own was not purchased by me. I know, that seems like "cheating", but of the 137 bottles I own, 100-ish were not purchased by me. Some of them belonged to my mother. Most of them belonged to a girl my aunt used to babysit and now I've got them for whatever reason. Either way, a lot of these polishes aren't truly "mine" - they were inherited. I don't think there's anything wrong with that - in fact, had my first experiences with nail polish not been gems from my mom's collection like Rimmel's 60 Seconds in "Pulsating" or Revlon's "KhakiZing" (which I totally need to review, btw), I probably wouldn't be as interested in it today.
All this is relevant because it means that I'm not intimately familiar with every single polish in my stash. Well, I am in that I know their names and how they look on my nails. But obviously I wasn't there to purchase them, so I don't know when they came out or if they were part of a collection. Since my recent obsession with vintage OPI, I sifted through my polishes and realized that I had one single bottle. And of course it's gotta be the ugliest polish ever.
That's kinda harsh. I'm sorry, OPI "Fee Fi Fo Plum", you're not really that bad. I think I'm just fed up because so many of the polishes I have are in the same family as this My mom was a BIG fan of purple back in the day, and she still is, so obviously I've got a ton of old AF frost/pearl/shimmer brush stroke-y purple stuff from back in the day. I actually painted my nails with some of these next to FFFP and...yeah.
1: Fee Fi Fo Plum by OPI
2: Plum-it by Brucci Nail Hardeners (the bottle I'm holding)
3: Virtual Violet by Revlon
4: No. 125 by DCA
5: Julia's Jewel by Brucci Nail Hardeners
(I actually really like that last one. Maybe a review is in order?)
So, unfortunately, though this is a black label OPI, I'm not really the biggest fan of it. This comes from the 2003 British collection, and man, does it smell FUNKY. I'm not really sure when the whole B3F thing started becoming mainstream, but I've heard that a lot of pre-B3F polishes smell really chemical-y. That's what I get from this. The consistency is also pretty watery, and as usual, trying to keep it out of my cuticles was real tough. However, I was able to achieve a reasonable level of opacity at 2 thinnish coats. Not too shabby!
Also, yes, I know my paint job is not really the best. I was in a rush. Now that is something I hate doing - painting my nails in a rush. And would you know this smudged and I had to take it off anyway? Boo hiss! Maybe this polish just has some bad juju. I thought this was interesting as well - the bottle is basically full. If this was worth anything I would maybe attempt to sell it, but I found it on a website for $12.99. Yeah... this is pretty old and possibly HTF, but it doesn’t look like there’s any demand for it. And understandably so. This color isn’t very unique and there are about a billion dupes out there. Though I’m not really sure why someone would want a frosty medium purple in the first place...
Anywayyyyyys. I think I’m done for tonight. I’ve got some ideas buzzing ‘round my head for things to do on this blog. I have no shortage of polishes to review, and I’ve got something exciting planned for tomorrow (or should I say today, since I’m posting in the early morning)... A CHRISTMAS MANI!!! Yes! Since it’s officially December, I think it’s only fitting. I made my own festive little nail decals, and I’ve got a color scheme planned. Maybe that will be soon? Good night for now!
